About Givanildo Vieira De Souza
Player Biography

Givanildo Vieira de Souza, universally known as Hulk, was born on July 25, 1986, in Campina Grande, Brazil. Over the course of his remarkable career, he has become one of the most recognizable and physically imposing forwards in modern football. Renowned for his explosive power, thunderous left foot, and ability to dominate defenders with sheer strength, Hulk has built a legacy that spans continents, from Brazil to Japan, Europe, Russia, China, and back to his homeland.

Hulk’s journey began in the youth academy of EC Vitória in Brazil, where his natural athleticism and raw attacking instincts set him apart. At just 18 years old, he made the bold decision to move abroad, starting an international path unusual for Brazilian players. His early career took him to Japan, where he played for Kawasaki Frontale, Consadole Sapporo (on loan), and Tokyo Verdy. It was in Japan’s second division where Hulk truly exploded, scoring goals at a rapid pace and earning a reputation as a powerful, relentless attacker. His performances drew the attention of European clubs and opened the door to the next major chapter of his career.

In 2008, Hulk signed with FC Porto, a move that transformed him from a promising talent into a global star. At Porto, he won multiple Primeira Liga titles and played a central role in the club’s dominance during the late 2000s and early 2010s. His blistering speed, long-range shooting, and ability to cut inside from the right wing made him one of the most feared attackers in Europe. His standout moment came during the 2010–11 season, when Porto won the UEFA Europa League under manager André Villas-Boas. Hulk’s performances during this period established him as one of the world’s most dynamic forwards.

In 2012, Hulk completed a high-profile transfer to Zenit Saint Petersburg, one of the most expensive moves in world football at the time. In Russia, he became the centerpiece of Zenit’s attack, contributing goals, assists, and a leadership presence. Hulk won the Russian Premier League, domestic cups, and consistently delivered in European competitions. His success in Russia further solidified his reputation as a dominant international footballer.

In 2016, Hulk moved to Shanghai SIPG in the Chinese Super League, becoming one of the highest-paid footballers in the world. He remained a top performer, helping the club win its first-ever league title in 2018 while continuing to showcase his trademark power and scoring ability.

After returning to Brazil in 2021 to join Atlético Mineiro, Hulk experienced a late-career resurgence. He led the team to the Campeonato Brasileiro Série A title and the Copa do Brasil, becoming a fan favorite and proving that his physicality, skill, and competitive hunger remained as strong as ever.

Internationally, Hulk represented Brazil from 2009 to 2017, earning caps in major tournaments such as the 2014 FIFA World Cup and winning the 2013 Confederations Cup. His presence, versatility, and work rate made him a valuable asset for the national team.

Today, Hulk is celebrated as one of the most unique Brazilian forwards of his generation—an athlete defined by power, passion, and an unforgettable left foot.
